I am not a big reader so when it came to choosing a book I wasn't sure what type of book to look for. I saw this shelf with Abe choose award books and after looking at a few I found this book. I figured if other people were enjoying this book then I might enjoy it to.
When I first started off I wasn't sure if what this book was going to be about but as I keep reading I enjoyed it more and more. The book started off talking about what this girl got for Christmas and how she did enjoy it because it was all health thing because both her mom and aunt were health freaks and wanted the over weight child to start caring about her weight and stop eating so much. Latter on in the book it moves to a salon that her mom owns. Rosemary is asked buy her mom to come in and take down all of the decorations. At the salon she takes to Mrs. McCutchin who is an over weight lady who is nice to Rosemary and usually brings her things. This time she brings her tea cakes and blondies and sand tarts. Because she was over weight she did want to take the deserts because she was worried about what people were going to say about her so she said no and disappointed Mrs. McCutchin.
In the second chapter, it moves to Rosemarry talking about how she got the nic name artichoke. She said that it has been going on since the sixth grade and it all started because she wanted this popular jacket and when she finally got it, it was out of season and her mom and aunt got her the jacket in an avocado green instead of a berry pink. So just like any other school their is mean girls and they pick on Rosemarry about her jacket. This part of the story reminded me of the movie "Mean Girls". Later on in this chapter it moves back to Mrs. McCutchin who came back into the salon where she wouldn't even talk to Rosemarry after she embarrassed her about the treats. But tords the end of the chapter Mrs. McCutchin had an heart attack and was put in the hospital. http://www.heart.org/HEARTORG/
In the third chapter, it starts off talking about how Rosemarry spent the last few days of her winter break. Her mom and aunt took her shopping that lead into a huge fight about how much Rosemarry eats and how she wont use the treadmill her mom got her for Christmas. Because of this fight it upset her mom and made for a long ride home.

I feel like this book is going to be depressing. I feel bad for Rosemary. She doesn't have a nice famiy to support her. Instead they make her feel bad about herself. Yea that part did remind me of mean girls too! Wow, poor Mrs. McCutchin! I can't believe she had a heart attack. If I was Rosemary I would feel awful because she was made at her right before she had it.
