Chapter Nine

Devon is woken up again by the lock on the cell door opening. It is the day after her meeting with her lawyer and that means that she has to now leave her cell and get her own food, get her toiletries, and get assigned a job to do. She has to participate in all of these things in order for her to impress the judge and her lawyer. Devon straightened her cell and then went down and got her toiletries and asked the new officer what she had to do for her chore. The lady gave her the job of cleaning up after each meal. when Devon was standing there talking to  her she touched that desk and then noticed the sign that said "TOUCH THE CONSOLE  GET A O!!!"
The lady said that it was fine because she didn't know but to not do it again. After that Devon managed to eat by herself with no one bothering her and then she cleaned up. After that she had to go to school just like all of the other girls. The teacher had her sit down and then she did role call. The teacher Ms. Coughran called every ones name and while she did this Devon familiarised herself with the room.
The lesson that day was on poetry. This was hard for Devon because it took her back to the night she read poetry with the baby's father. She had about a four page flash back to when the where walking and reading poems that where written in chalk. When she comes back she a few of the girls are reading their poems and the girl next to Devon starts to pick on her again.

Chapter Seven and Chapter Eight

In chapter seven, Devon gets washed up and  ready to see her lawyer. When it came to talking to the lawyer Devon was very quiet and keep asking her self questions about the new lawyer. Finally the lawyer got sick of Devon's attitude and started yelling at her and giving her ultimatums. Finally Devon gave in and started doing what she said. The lawyer told Devon that she needed to start getting on the honorole system by doing chores and by going to school and working hard. Before the lawyer leaves and Devon goes back to her cell she hands Devon newspaper clippings about her story and what they are all saying.
In chapter eight, when Devon is back to her cell where no one can see her, their she unfolded the article's and look at what they are all saying. She shuffles threw them and stoped at one in particular.
"A Sharp pain slams into her chest, seizes her breath. One of the couch -- the blood-soaked cushions, the crumpled blanket. another of the bathroom-- the blood smeared across the linoleum, a pile of soiled towels in the corner. And still another -- a torn open trash bag, revealing the garbage contained within."
After looking at all of them she threw then to the floor and curled up in a ball and trys to stop all of the thoughts running threw her mind. She keeps having flash backs to that night and the articles. One in particular with the heading "Miracle baby Anastasia resurrected from certain death when plucked from a trash can early yesterday"

Chapter four to Chapter six

Chapter four, starts off talking about how, Devon is taken out of the court room in tears because she has started to lactate and the court thing has finished. She is taken into a hall by an officer who takes off the ankle cuffs and then walks her to a room that has all of the extra things like jump suits, towels, and bedding. Devon is told to pick-up a bed roll and then they start walking again to the girl’s part of the prison. When she gets their officer leaves and the lady security guard starts talking to her and wants her to put down her bed role.

          "Can't I"-- Devon takes in a shaky breath and swallows-- "could I just . . . when I get to . . . my cell? Please? I promise--"

"No," the woman interrupts. "And I'm losing patience, fast."

This was such a big problem because Devon didn't want the other girls in the jail to see her and the fact that she was lactating. The officer tried to block her and get her to her cell without the the girls in the jail seeing her.
In chapter five, Devon wakes up to her name being called. It is the doctor and she is here to make sure that Devon is in a good state of mind and dose not want to kill her self. At first Devon dose not want to talk to her but after a while she warmed up and started talking to her. She asked her questions about how she is feeling.
In chapter six, Devon wakes up the next day to the sound of the metal door slamming. She hears the other girls out side. She looks threw the cell door and can see them grabbing their toiletries, trays, and doing some chores. Devon realises that after being up that it is only the next day and that she has to go to the bathroom. So she looks long and hard at the toilet in the corner and the decides to go. Then the security guard walks in and brings Devon her breakfast. It doesn't even fade her that Devon is on the toilet, she says a few things to her. One thing she said was that her lawyer was coming to talk to her, after the rest of the girls went to school.

Chapter one - Chapter three

I was originally not planning on reading this book. I was going to read a book by the author that we heard speak, but when I went to find her book they had all been checked out. So I looked around for a book and couldn't find on so Aide went and picked one off the shelf of Abe Chose Award books. I went to read the inside cover about the book and write at the top in large letters it said "Who would leave her own baby in the trash to die?" This sentence caught my attention and made me want to read it even more.
In the first chapter, it talks about how Devon the main girl in the story is laying on the couch with a blanket and is just blankly staring at the screen. Then her mom comes home and is surprised to see her daughter because Devon would never miss school. Devon is trying to listen to her mom when she talks to her but can't seem to focus on what she is saying. After a while of trying to get her to talk her mom gives up and then their is a knock on the door. Devon stayed laying on the couch when her mom answered the door and it was two police officers. They were asking about finding the baby and were wondering if she had seen anything, she said no but that her daughter may have. So the one officer went over to Devon and was trying to talk to her but she was having trouble focusing. Her mom wanted her to focus so she ripped off her blanket and they all looked at each other shocked and then Devon looked down at her pants and sees blood and then starts saying sorry to her mom.
In the next chapter, Devon is on a gurney heading into the hospital, she is so confused and doesn't know where she is. She is taken to a room and  a doctor and a nurse come in and try to get Devon to calm down after telling her that they need to examine her. They gave her a sedative and when they finally examined her they found out that the placenta hadn't been delivered, so she had to go into surgery.
In chapter three, Devon is getting put into the back of a police car after spending a few days in the hospital. As they drive she looks at the town and can see all the places she knows. They arrive at the juvenile detention canter at Remann Hall. http://www.k12guides.com/school/Remann-Hall-Juvenile-Detention-Center%3B530870002171.html. When they get their the one officer goes into the building and the other helps Devon out of the car and into the building. She sites their for a little while when the officer tells the lady about who she was and then the lady behind the glass window asked Devon some questions. After she was done asking questions, another lady took her back and told her that their was a lot of things to do because Devon had a court appointment at one o'clock. When it came time for her court appointment she was sitting out in the hall way along side other kids waiting for their court appointment, zoning out. During the trial Devon couldn't keep up with the law talk and didn't know what was going on and didn't want to ask the lawyer. After the lawyers talk for a little while the judge asked a women to talk. The lady starts talking about how they can find Devon's mom and how she wont answer her phone and she hasn't gone to her work, and has abandoned her home. This upset Devon but she knew that it was going to hapen after seeing the look on her face.
